Superior National at Lutsen
The Legendary North Shore Golf Course, Reborn!

Canyon Opening.
September 7th to October 1st
Rotation for play will be River to Canyon

Rules and Stipulations for play.

Cart Paths Mandatory on Canyon.  If golfers are not able to walk from the cart path to the tee, shots in the fairway and to the green, you will not be able to play the Canyon. It is vital that carts stay on the paths on the Canyon course at all times. Violators will be asked to stop play and either finish by walking or be moved to the Mountain. No refunds or rain checks will be given to people violating this rule. Those that need to drive to their ball will play River to Mountain (River and Mountain carts use 90 degree rule when possible).

Early morning back 9 play will not be allowed. The grounds crew will use that time to water the course on its last cycle for the morning. Once play starts to make the turn on Canyon, some 9-hole play may be allowed. But only when available and never guaranteed.

Play on Canyon could close on a daily basis depending on course conditions. The Course Superintendant will monitor the health of the course. If he feels there is excessive damage or stress to the grass, it could close that day. Golfers are not guaranteed play on Canyon.

Canyon will close October 2nd for the remainder of the season. In order for Canyon to recover from play during these opening weeks, it is vital it has time to heal. We all look forward to a healthy and beautiful course to open fully in 2018 and beyond.

We all are excited to play Canyon, but we all also must abide by these rules for the health of the golf course.

New Canyon #5 & #6

A course like no other!

Superior National is located in Cook County, Minnesota, about 90 minutes north of Duluth and 90 miles south of Thunder Bay, Canada.

Tucked away in the Minnesota northwoods, between the North Shore of Lake Superior and the Sawtooth Mountain Range, Superior National pairs untamed beauty with unparalleled play - now enhanced by a $4.6 million renovation on the "River" and "Canyon" courses.

For Phase 1 of the renovation, renowned golf architect Jeffrey Brauer refined the signature challenges of the River 9 with Ohio's Best white sand bunkers, five new sets of tees, playable roughs and wider fairways, environmentally-friendly irrigation and drainage and immaculate, larger greens.

If you love golf, you owe it to yourself to experience the new River & Canyon this late summer.

And when you see and play the new River, check out what's being done to the Canyon 9. Phase 2 was completed in 2016 and it..is...unbelievable! All of the renovation done to the River was also constructed into the Canyon. Five new tees, white sand bunkers, irrigation and larger putting friendly greens (although they still "break to the lake" in some cases).

Mountain and River will be the 18-hole course for the beginning of the 2017 golf season until Canyon opens September 7th. We will then be playing River to Canyon for the 18-hole rotation until Canyon closes October 2nd.  We will again play Mounatin to River for the remainder of the season until end of October.

Superior National offers a classic course layout spiced up with grand elevation changes and sloping fairways. As always, the Poplar River and bird-rich forests provide a wild soundtrack to your game, while Lake Superior supplies the fresh, cool breeze.

Superior National is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. You may find yourself sharing the links with deer, fox, owls, timber wolf, or moose. Yet all the civilized amenities of a championship golf course await you here. Refuel and relax at the clubhouse grill. Stay in touch with the digital world with our FREE Wi-Fi, and don't forget to gear up at the pro shop with the latest clothing lines. We have Callaway rental clubs if you don't want to bring your own. Schedule a lesson to improve your game. Stay and Play in comfort. YOU deserve it.
